LIGHT ON THE PATH, Mable Collins.
This short book, first published in 1888, is one of the fundamental books of the Theosophical Society and some Western Yoga schools. This is one of the most important occult books, which can be read over and over as your path circles the mountain. Each time you read it you will find new understanding in its words.
I have created an e-book version of it. Indeed 3 different types of e-book. I decided to create this E-Book so that it would be more accessible to people around the world. It has been published in many editions by the Theosophical Society for more than 100 years.
Although there are a number of on-line versions, this is to my knowledge, the only e-book version. I have kept the layout of the 1963 Adyar Version including the notes, and the bold print, which are very important. Some on-line versions move the notes where they lose all importance.
I have always thought this an unusual book, a precious gem, strange, saying things that few other books do. If you'd like some more help with understanding it you could read: ADVANCED COURSE IN YOGI PHILOSOPHY AND ORIENTAL OCCULTISM, by YOGI RAMACHARAKA. Originally published by L.N. FOWLER, LONDON. The explanations given in Ramacharaka's book are the best you are likely to find, indeed some would say much better than the "COMMENTS" section in LIGHT ON THE PATH.
When you read -- whatever it is -- you need to keep an open mind, but not be gullible. You need to listen to your inner self, and check if what you are reading is acceptable. And if it isn't ask yourself why.

I present this Ebook with great pleasure! It is one of the best known books on the philosophy of living written during the 20th century--many people would also say the most important.
A short book, that can be read in a few hours, but one that once read will call you back again and again, and each time you will learn more and more. I don't have enough room to tell you about the author, but you can easily search that elsewhere. All I have to say is, if you have not read this book do not miss it! If you have not read it in the last two years, well you know in your heart it is time to re-read the beautiful wisdom.
I doubt you will find a better version anywhere else on the internet. It is in the public domain in Australia, but perhaps if you live in some other country it may still be under copyright.
This version (in pdf, zipped) has the drawings by Kahlil Gibran, which came with the 1964 version.
Originally written in 1926. A great gift to the entire world. I for one, receive it with profound thanks.

INNER LIGHT OUTER WEALTH, Asoka Selvarahja
I found this book to be one of the most helpful and useful I have read for some time. It is mostly about your inner world, how you interpret life, how you react to events. It will not appeal to everyone because it is from the perspective of Eastern philosophy (ie India / China) rather than Middle-East religions.
It is not dogmatic, nor does it cut into traditional religions, rather it supplements them. Many of the ideas are from the 20th century---the important thing is whether they can help the reader or not.
I think most people will find a lot in here that will help them to interpret the world they live in. It is quite a short book, about 40 pages. You can also get a free ezine for further reading. It is in pdf. FREE

LEAVES OF GRASS by Walt Whitman
Many people fail to see the significant spiritual nature of this book.
First published in 1855, revised and added to a number of times, this book of poems was vilified at the time, described as "indecent", largely because Whitman wrote about some subjects that were taboo. One critic, hmmm his name has disappeared now, wanted to "horsewhip" Whitman for writing something as disgusting as this. These days it is regarded as an American Classic, unfortunately at the time Whitman lived in poverty and had to self-publish.
